How does a graphic design project works – part 1

We have been asked a lot lately on “How does it work?” when it comes to working with a graphic design studio. So we decided this is the right time for us to do blog posts about KAI Design’s approach when it comes to a design project.

Similar to a “consultation” process, there are actually several steps for a graphic design project. We deconstructed the process and simplified key milestones…below is the Part-1 of our approach to any design project, hope you will find this useful. Part-2 will follow up in the next blog post!

Step 1 – Initial Meeting / Briefing

Any graphic design project starts with an initial meeting/briefing with the clients. The initial meeting/briefing is crucial for designers; this is the phrase where we find out about the details and needs of the client so we can come up with design solutions that fit with the clients’ mandate as well as their existing company values and look-and-feel. Typically, this step involves us asking many, many questions! For KAI Design, we have a questionnaire that we always go through with our clients.

Step 2 – Proposal

Once we met with the client and have a good understanding of their needs then we move onto the 2nd phrase of the consultation process, which is to prepare a proposal for them. The proposal is a document that states how the project is going to be produced and the steps that need to be taken from start to finish. This proposal is where we highlight the deliverables as well as timeframe, budget and project terms for the tasks.

One of the questions that we get asked a lot by our client is “How much does it cost?”

The answer to that question is: It depends!

Since every project is different, setting a budget range will allow us to manage and allocate proper amount of time and resources to the project. Therefore, the “how much does it cost” question is often in relation to the client’s budget. The budget will play an important role on the number of revisions, design options and time spent on the tasks.

Once the proposal is approved then we create an agreement/contract based on the proposal prior to moving forward to the design phrase.

The next blog article (Part-2) will discuss about the steps once we move onto the actually design process, so stay tuned! In the mean time, feel free to comment or ask us questions. We would love to hear from you!

In the light of searching for new a topic or a new artist to showcase for our next event with Evenkai (www.evenkai.ca), we came cross a book called The New Faces of Art – a comprehensive and illustrative book displaying works by artists that will be the future in the Art World. It was definitely interesting to see the future directions of the art evolution in our time.

One of the featured artists that caught our eyes is Carole Beauvais, a Canadian born artist that is currently living in Montreal! We LOVE Montreal talents!

4 Powerful tools to use when using Facebook

Facebook is one of the strongest Social Media Platforms. Today it has reached more than 500 000 000 users, who spend from 10 minutes to 3 hours on it. This illustrates a huge potential for businesses to gain direct contact and access with its target customers.

1- Facebook Ads

This is a powerful way to build brand awareness and offer promotions. The best part of Facebook ad is that it allows you to choose specific target market, by gender, age, profession and location. Each ad can have a specific daily budget, which can be modified at any time.

2- Tabsite

A very nice way to build a micro site on facebook, the tabsite offers an extra tab on your facebook page, which can be personalized to promote products and services or to give additional information about the company or project. This tabsite can be configured so new visitor could arrive to this tab first, which is filled with latest news

3- Cross-reference

Implement cross-reference strategy to promote your services and products on facebook groups and communities. It is always a good idea to ask for permissions before posting on other people’s wall. Make good relationships with other companies or organizations who will compliment with what you have to offer.

4- Facebook statistics

Facebook statistics is an important tool that allows you to monitor activities in your Facebook group.  This includes getting the stats for the number of visitors, interaction and new fans periodically. Monitoring the statistics can help business to build a well-rounded communication strategy.

6 Social Media Benefits

Social Media is a great way to put a human face on a company, reach complete communities, promote services and products and enhance a brand.

Worldwide big corporations are using Social Media tools to do it (Particularly Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn) but somehow in Montreal and Quebec regions have not fully boarded the Social Media train yet.

Apparently some managers see Facebook as a teenager game, Twitter as a lot of small talk and YouTube as cute or funny videos; without realizing how interactive and beneficial those vehicles can be for their business strategies.

Here are 6 ways how business can benefit from using Social Media:

1- Communicate with Customers

Listening to what your customers say and participating in conversations or looking for feedback. Specially if your competition is using social media tools and you are not, this will put you in disadvantage.

2- Promote Products and Specials.

Advertise a product or service to current and potential customers. Using Social Media tools is also a great way let people know about specials and current promotions.

3- Conduct Surveys about new Products

Fast, efficiency and direct method to interact with customers about specific products/services and related questions. Its also easy to monitor users’ experiences and feedback.

4- Build relationships

Letting people know that you hear them, and want to help them if they have questions. Creating meaningful conversation and interaction with your customers.

5- Brand Recognition

Social Media vehicle are making it possible for your company to reach a huge number of potential customers. Getting your name out there to build brand awareness.

6- Generate traffic to a website

Creating additional traffic by posting updates that link back to your Website. Social media bookmarking tools like Digg, Reddit, and Stumbleupon can also generate traffic to your site.

6 Efficiency tips for Entrepreneurs & Marketing Consultants.

If you are a Business owner or a Marketing specialist you may have experience some operational challenges in the past, and you may wonder what you can do to avoid those issues. Here are some tips to help you increase your efficiency:

  • Listen to your customers and respond more rapidly than your competitors.
Be swift and efficient! This will help you to build stronger relationships and trust with them.
  • Improve Target Definition.
Clearly definitely your target market to avoid time wasted on contacting the wrong people.
  • Make yourself accessible.
Always be there for your client. Being reliable goes a long way!
  • Recover gracefully from a crash or fail.
We all learn from our mistakes! If you are unsure about venturing into new terrain then, don’t do anything until you’ve done your research and plan a strategy. Then you will be ready to try again.
  • Experiment with direct response media, while being “User-Friendly”
Forget about using a complex language while talking to your clients. Make it easy for them to follow you. Use direct response media to reach your target market.
  • Cut your graphic design time and cost in half.
Offer quality to your clients, hire a graphic designer or even a small design agency to help you with the design of reports, advertising and marketing collaterals. It will help you to concentrate on your strength: strategy.

Hoping those tips will help you to build a stronger business and focus on the right strategy.
